Tyrnävän Pappila

The Story of Vanhatien Ravintola

Vanhatien Ravintola was born from a passion for quality food and local ingredients. The historic old parsonage in Tyrnävä was given new life in 2021 when entrepreneur Mikko Kukkohovi opened the doors to a restaurant that combines northern cuisine, the aromas of smoking, and the finest offerings from local producers.

The core idea of the restaurant has been clear from the very beginning: to offer customers authentic smoked BBQ food that is carefully crafted from start to finish. Vanhatien Ravintola’s gourmet burgers are made from house-smoked minced meat, the fries are triple-fried from high-quality Tyrnävä potatoes, and the mayonnaises are made from locally sourced eggs. The menu also features smoked, juicy ribs, wings, and salmon, all of which gain their distinctive flavor from slow cooking and the gentle touch of smoke.

Since opening its doors in July 2021, Vanhatien Ravintola quickly became a favorite among locals and travelers. The restaurant is also part of the Oulu2026 Arctic Food Lab project, which showcases the unique food culture of the North, and was awarded the Newcomer of the Year 2023 in this network.

In 2025, Vanhatien Ravintola expanded its operations and adopted the Smokehouse 299 brand, further emphasizing the importance of smoking and craftsmanship. A new location in Vuokatti was also opened, offering delicious BBQ experiences to a wider audience in Kainuu.

Smokehouse 299 is much more than just a place to eat – it is an experience where history and modern flavors meet. Guests can enjoy a cozy dining experience indoors or, in the summer, on the outdoor terrace.

The company has always wanted to bring something new and bold to the area. Their passion for quality food and local collaboration is evident in everything Smokehouse 299 does. The restaurant has quickly established itself as a leading player in the region’s food culture, attracting customers from all over Finland to enjoy smoked local food.

Welcome to experience the magic of smoke and flavors in the heart of Tyrnävä and Vuokatti!
